All the Main Characters in Elk Studios’ Nitropolis Slot Series Decoded

A chaotic, dystopian world on the verge of collapse. A quartet of wacky canines, felines, and rodents competing for the precious, green Nitro that runs their cars. That’s Elk Studios’ Nitropolis series in a nutshell!

It’s a dog-eat-dog world where humans no longer exist. Most animals have disappeared, too, barring four clans - The Dirty Dawgs, the Gritty Kitties, the Pug Thugs, and the Rogue Rats - who now fight a turf war for absolute domination. But only one of them can rule Nitropolis!

Every Nitroopolis slot review has discussed the features of each of the Nitropolis slots - from RTP to volatility to the exclusive Nitro Reels and even X-iter bonus buy features. However, none of them has discussed the characters, which are the heart of the games. Come, let’s meet them!

The Dirty Dawgs

With red glowing eyes, the Dirty Dawgs are the Terminators of the Nitropolis universe. They look like formidable warriors in black who would go to any extent to get that damn Nitro. They have been designed to resemble Doberman Pinschers - a new breed that’s more like a jigsaw puzzle of Rottweiler, German Pinscher, and Balck and Tan Terrier.

Just like these dogs, the Dirty Dawgs of Nitropolis appear to be aggressive, intimidating, and ready to deliver a fatal bite. But perhaps they are just battle-hardened because, in reality, Dobies are gentle, playful, and extremely intelligent. They don’t particularly like to fight, but would not flee the battlefield without defending what they love.

Let’s remember that a Dobie needs to socialize to civilize itself. Without training, it goes wild, which is perhaps what happened to it in the post-apocalyptic world of Nitropolis. Still and all, its sleek coat, athletic build, armor, and royal appearance impart a boss look that’s missing in the rest of the clans.

No wonder Elk Studios has kept the Boss of the Dirty Dawgs clan as one of the highest-paying symbols in the Nitropolis series. Nitropolis 1 fetches you 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 5x your stake if you land 3, 4, 5, or 6 of them on adjoining reels. On the other hand, Nitropolis 2 offers 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, or 0.9x your stake and Nitropolis 3 offers 1.5, 3, 4, or 5x your stake for the same.

The Gritty Kitties

Elk Studios’ Gritty Kitties are probably a tribute to The Ren & Stimpy Show that aired on TV between 1991 and 1996. Gritty Kitty is a cat litter brand that’s popular in the world of Ren, the psychotic chihuahua, and Stimpy, the dimwitted cat.

In the world of Nitropolis, however, Gritty Kitties aren’t psychotic or dimwitted. Instead, they look rather conniving. They are designed as felines that look like chihuahuas, which is yet another factor that bespeaks their highly deceptive nature.

The wrinkles on their forehead tell us they are tactful fighters; they fight the war in their mind long before they fight it on the battlefield. The 12-point Dodecagram tattoo on their forehead is a hint at them possibly being wizards and deeply into the occult and religion.

Elk Studios probably took cues from Canadian Sphynx cats while designing them. They are anything but furry and have been touted to be a highly intelligent species. They are known for their heat-seeking behavior, which tells us they must have adapted extremely well to the post-apocalyptic environment of Nitropolis.

Sphynx cats require a high level of excitement and love hinting games. This explains how the Gritty Kitties were able to survive the apocalypse and become one of the ruling clans in Nitropolis. Perhaps this is why they are the second highest-paying symbols.

The Gritty Kitty Boss in Nitropolis 1 slot pays 1 1.2, 1.4, 1.8, or 3.6x your stake for 2, 3, 4, or 5. That in Nitropolis 2 pays 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, or 0.8x your stake and 1, 2, 2.5, or 3x your stake in Nitropolis 3 for 3, 4, 5, or 6 symbols.

The Pug Thugs

The clan of Pug Thugs in Nitropolis is extremely adorable but highly territorial. They didn’t choose the thug life; the thug life chose them! They were probably once used to serve their human masters and accompany them in their silly adventures.

Thankfully, the apocalypse happened and these canines got a chance to break free from their nice-dog game. But even though they could unleash themselves upon the world, they could never do away with their thug life! Willingly or unwillingly, they got into the battle for Nitro fuel and eventually the ultimate reign over Nitropolis.

How these innocent misfits survived the apocalypse is a mystery. But they could easily adapt to the dramatic changes by dint of their smartness and observant nature. Pugs are quick learners, which is probably how the Pug Thug gang in Nitropolis swiftly learned the rules of the survival game.

Their stable temperament has so far helped them strategize every move. But let’s be honest, when the time comes for a real fight, they would probably lose because of the same quality. Their pent-up energy is good news for their foes because they are likely to make mistakes during an outburst.

Probably this is why Elk Studios ranks them low in the line of symbols in all the Nitropolis slots. The Pug Boss pays 1, 1.2, 1.7, or 3.4x tour stake for 2, 3, 4, or 5 symbols in Nitropolis 1. In Nitropolis 2, it pays 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, or 0.7x your stake and 0.75, 1.5, 2, or 2.5x your stake in Nitropolis 3 for 3, 4, 5, or 6 symbols.

The Rogue Rats

Last, but not least is the clan of Rogue Rats who are literally in a rat race for the precious Nitro. They are probably leftovers of the greedy troop that wanted to overrun Washington DC and crush the American Dream. They are now in Nitropolis donning a snapback hat and a weary look that bespeaks the struggle in this dystopian world.

From their appearance and combat uniform, they look like they were once associated with the military. Probably it all went for a toss when the apocalypse hit. The rodents soon found themselves out of a job and even worse, out of purpose.

Their next best option was to jump into the bandwagon of acquiring the Nitro fuel to keep afloat. However, they are small animals very often outdone by their smart competitors. In Nitropolis, they belong to the lowest level of the food chain and hence, are easily and always the prey!

But they are masters at escaping the battlefield the moment they smell a fight. Perhaps they come out at night when the others clans rest. Their nocturnal habits reflect in their dark circles and dreary appearance.

This predicament could be a reason Elk Studios kept the Rogue Rats as the lowest-paying symbols in the Nitropolis series. The Rat Boss pays out 0.8, 1, 1.5, or 3x your stake for 2, 3, 4, or 5 symbols in Nitropolis 1. It disappears in Nitropolis 2 (gets locked up) and makes a comeback in Nitropolis 3, where it pays 0.5, 1, 1.5, or 2x your stake for 3, 4, 5, or 6 symbols.

We’re leaving out the fearsome Sergeant Nitro Wolf from the discussion because it appears only in Nitropolis 2 and isn’t a central character. Please note that this article is a fun take on the characters in Elk Studios’ Nitropolis series of slots. It should not be taken as official information.
