Georgia refused to introduce a ban on gambling advertising

Consideration of the draft law on the prohibition of gambling advertising is suspended by the decision of the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, according to the deputy Levan Gogichishvil.

Levan Gogichaishvili said that the discussion of the project has been suspended a few months ago, despite the fact that the document had managed to go through all the committees. Gogichaishvili also added that the government was to submit the draft law for consideration. However, if this doesn't happen in the near future, the deputy plans to initiate it independently.

Another bill regarding raising the age at which residents of Georgia will be allowed to gamble was presented for consideration as well. Previously, only players from the age of 21 were allowed to gamble on the territory of the country but now this age is proposed to be increased up to 25 years.

At the moment, 50 operators offer their services in the gambling market of Georgia, with revenues growing annually. For example, according to the reports of 2017, the turnover from the gambling business amounted to 137.5 billion rubles. However, Betlive and Adjarabet remain market leaders in Georgia. In 2017, Adjarabet's revenues exceeded 933 million rubles. At the same time, the profit of the "Betlayv" company amounted to 6.8 billion rubles.
